Screening Information
All students in kindergarten through 6th grade and 9th Grade partake in a health screening each fall at the beginning of the school year. Each student is screened for visual acuity and hearing. Height and weight are also measured during the health screening. The health screening is performed to identify any problem areas and correct them as soon as possible.
If a student has an area of concern after the initial screening, a second screening will be performed within 30 days. At this time the student will be screened specifically for the indicated area of concern whether it be vision or hearing. If the problem has not been resolved by this time a referral letter will be sent home to the parent/guardian of the student indicating a need for further medical evaluation. If a referral letter is sent to your home, I strongly encourage you as the parent/guardian to take the time to have the students hearing or vision evaluated by a doctor. Even what seems like minor deficiencies in vision and hearing can have a major impact on the student’s success in the classroom.
